There are many wonderful ways to get FREE feedback—local writing groups, programs like 12x12, and critique partners. These communities can be incredibly supportive, so I do encourage you to check those out. But if you’re the type that just wants focused and straightforward one-on-one feedback, keep reading.

What I do: I read your manuscript with fresh eyes and provide in-line notes, big-picture feedback, and practical suggestions to strengthen your story. No calls, no back-and-forth—just honest, comprehensive feedback you can take and run with.

"Marie’s insights are consistently spot-on, identifying key themes and character arcs while offering thoughtful, actionable suggestions. She approaches every story with optimism and kindness—something that’s surprisingly rare in editing." -Tom Meyer (author/illustrator)

"I have had the privilege of receiving Marie’s careful, thoughtful critiques, the pleasure of writing with her, and the joy of hearing her share her books with little children. I wholeheartedly recommend her critique services—she is a beautiful writer who offers insightful feedback." -Cathy S. (author of Keep on a-Walkin': Kimberly Burwell Stands Up for Environmental Justice)

“I wholeheartedly recommend Marie to other writers! She’s a writer’s writer. She understands the thrill of beautiful writing and can appreciate the same in others. She never stops trying to learn more and share her experiences. But most of all, she has the unique ability to inspire and challenge you, while also cheering you on from the sidelines!" -Heather Haines (novelist)

"Marie looks at the big picture as well as the nitty-gritty and is easily able to spot areas in need of attention, be it plot, clarity, pacing, or whatever. But she is also quick to point out areas that are working and that she particularly likes. She has helped me improve my work significantly. I highly recommend her!" -Sallye Orourke (writer)

"Marie’s picture book critiques include insightful questions about character and plot development, and she has a keen eye for ways to winnow down the word count without losing the heart of the story. Her detailed but encouraging comments make it easy to dive into revisions." -Carol Doeringer (author of If You Wake A Skunk)

About Me

About Me.

Marie is a PAL author and general creator of “things.” Having a second start in life upon moving home to the United States from China—where she spent her 30s—Marie is far from understanding what adulting is and if she should participate.

Marie’s twelve-year-old toy poodle has yet to inspire an anamorphic story. Rather, her stories reflect her culture and her desire to encourage younger and older generations of Asian Americans to break down the barriers of communication and storytelling.

With a flurry of anecdotes floating around in her head, she hopes to write for more than just the picture book market. Her latest venture… novels! Marie is the author of Yuna’s Cardboard Castles and Baba’s Peach Tree and has three additional manuscripts in development with Disney Hyperion and Random House Studio.

In her free time… well, she doesn’t have much of that—but when she does, she enjoys cooking with her teenage daughter, thinking about bonsai trees, traveling around the world, and—of course—reading.
